The fourth post in the Stump the Social Media Guy series is for cake dec­o­ra­tors.

Now, I know the first thing that will pop into your mind may have been to post pho­tos of all those awe­some dec­o­rat­ed cakes. That is def­i­nite­ly a great way to engage your audi­ence. The only prob­lem is that every­one else is doing it. You need some­thing few oth­ers are doing.

Anoth­er way for cake dec­o­ra­tors to engage with their social media audi­ence is to record week­ly tuto­r­i­al videos.

Each week, record a 30 – 60-sec­ond video of your­self demon­strat­ing a dec­o­rat­ing tech­nique, then upload it to a video shar­ing site like YouTube or Vimeo, and share it on your social media net­works. This will do sev­er­al things to increase engage­ment:

  1. It places you as an expert in the field because you’re teach­ing some­thing. Peo­ple love to share things that teach them some­thing.
  2. Post­ing these along with cake pho­tos will give peo­ple a vari­ety of con­tent to share.
  3. If you link to pho­tos you’ve already shared using that tech­nique, and tag your cus­tomers, it will encour­age more shar­ing because your cus­tomers will be proud of the fan­tas­tic cake you made for them.
