Stump the Social Media Guy: Tip 4, Cake decorator

The fourth post in the Stump the Social Media Guy series is for cake decorators.

Now, I know the first thing that will pop into your mind may have been to post photos of all those awesome decorated cakes. That is definitely a great way to engage your audience. The only problem is that everyone else is doing it. You need something few others are doing.

Another way for cake decorators to engage with their social media audience is to record weekly tutorial videos.

Each week, record a 30–60-second video of yourself demonstrating a decorating technique, then upload it to a video sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo, and share it on your social media networks. This will do several things to increase engagement:

  1. It places you as an expert in the field because you’re teaching something. People love to share things that teach them something.
  2. Posting these along with cake photos will give people a variety of content to share.
  3. If you link to photos you’ve already shared using that technique, and tag your customers, it will encourage more sharing because your customers will be proud of the fantastic cake you made for them.

If you liked this tip, please share it with others. If you want your business to featured in the next instalment of Stump the Social Media Guy, post your business type and name in the comments below, on my Facebook page, on my Twitter feed, or send me an email.
