Engaging content is the most important way to increase followers in the long-term. Organic growth is the best kind of growth because the followers are more likely to remain your followers and more likely to interact with your content.

No matter how engaging your content is, without a significant follower base, you will receive little engagement. This is why it’s critical to increase your current follower base; increasing your followers in the short term is the key for getting people to share your content.

Once you have increased your initial follower count, switch your focus to creating shareable content. Engaging content is content that encourages people to like, comment, share, retweet it. There are 2 components to a successful social media account: balance between sharing your and others’ content and sharing visual content. 

1. Sharing your and others’ content

Successful social media accounts don’t share content about only themselves. People expect you to talk about yourself, but if all you do is yell “Buy, buy buy,” your followers will quickly ignore you or even stop following you.

Content curation is a critical component of a successful social media account. Find content posted by other Facebook pages and other Twitter accounts but that is related to the industries you’re trying to target. This will provide you with a fresh source of content, but it also encourages other Facebook pages and Twitter accounts to follow you.

That being said, be sure to share your own content, too. You must find a balance between the two.

2. Share visual content

When you create your own content, try to find ways to make it visual. The content people love to share the most are images and videos. Images include photos, infographics, and memes.

Find ways to share the benefits of your products. This could include videos of demonstrations, testimonials, or perhaps before/after videos. It could also include infographics, static images of testimonials, inspiring quotes, number lists, step-by-step tutorials, and so forth.
