Why you should increase your followers: More potential clients

Right off the bat, I’m just going to say that follower count is worthless in and of itself. If you think follower count is a badge of honour or a status symbol, then you’re doing it wrong.

That being said, gaining more followers does have value, and here’s one reason why.

More followers means more potential clients

As your followers reshare your content, as you engage more with your followers, and as you improve the freshness of your conversations, you can increase the number of visitors to your website.

Getting more visitors to your website is the entire point of inbound marketing. Once you get them to your website, they can read more about you and your products or services. They may read past blog posts, and they may sign up for your regular newsletter.

Your website can act as a funnel, where you encourage your social media followers to visit, then direct them to engage with a call to action (downloading an ebook, subscribing to your newsletter, submitting a quote, making a purchase, and so on).

Granted, most of your social media followers won’t visit your website. You’ll be lucky if 1 or 2% do, which is why you should increase your follower count. After all 1% of 100 is much smaller than 1% of 10,000.

Remember, however, that increasing your followers is pointless if you don’t engage with them. Increasing your followers just to increase them will have no effect on your customer numbers. People are interested in value, and you need to prove that you can give them value.
