I’ve heard some peo­ple con­fus­ing the words dis­cust­ing and dis­gust­ing. Here’s the dif­fer­ence between the two.


Dis­cust­ing is a mis­spelling of dis­gust­ing. It’s easy to see why peo­ple mis­spell it because dis­gust­ing sounds like dis­cust­ing; the hard G sound sounds like a hard C sound.


Dis­gust­ing, on the oth­er hand, is the act or state of caus­ing dis­gust.

I woke up cov­ered in baby puke; it was dis­gust­ing.

Mem­o­ry tip: If you have a hard time remem­ber­ing how to spell dis­gust­ing, just remem­ber that dis­gust­ing and gross both con­tain a G and both mean the same thing.
