Church History of Atlantic Canada
Below are some of the prominent historical events of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Atlantic Canada.
- 1833 - Lyman Johnson & John Heriot began proselytising in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick
- 1843 - Missionaries sent to Nova Scotia by Joseph Smith
- 1843, 18 Nov - Halifax Branch created; smaller branches in Preston, Popes Harbour, and Onslow
- 1845, Nov - Beddeque Branch on PEI formed. Charlottetown Branch formed also
- 1840s, late to 1850s, mid - Emigration to join other Saints in western United States
- 1855, 12 May - 50 Church members traveled on the ship Barque Halifax around Cape Horn to San Francisco
- 1889 - Marriner W. Merrill from Sackville, NB, ordained an Apostle.
- 1920 - Canadian Mission resumes proselytising in Atlantic Canada
- 1937 - Maritimes covered by New England Mission
- 1947 - Halifax Branch reorganised
- 1958 - Sydney Branch created
- 1959 - Meetinghouse completed in Halifax
- 1961 - Branch created in Bridgewater
- 1966 - Church membership in Maritimes at 1,380
- 1972, Nov - First regional meeting of Maritime & New Brunswick districts held in Moncton
- 1973, 1 August - Canada-Maritimes Mission formed
- 1974 - Church membership in Halifax and Dartmouth branches at 750
- 1982 - Church membership in Nova Scotia at 2,331
- 1985 - Dartmouth Nova Scotia Stake created with Terry L. Livingstone as president
- 1987 - Church membership at: 1,600 (New Brunswick), 550 (Newfoundland), 3,150 (Nova Scotia) and 300 (PEI); Annapolis Royal Branch gets meetinghouse
- 1988 - Church meetinghouses number: 6 (New Brunswick), 2 (Newfoundland), 13 (Nova Scotia) and 3 (PEI)
- 1998 - Temple announced for Halifax
- 1998, 12 Oct - Groundbreaking for Halifax Temple
- 1999, 14 Nov - Halifax Nova Scotia Temple dedicated with E. A. John MacLennan of Dartmouth as president
- 2000 - Church Membership in Nova Scotia at 4300
