Why you should increase your followers: Make up for inactive ones

Right off the bat, I’m just going to say that follower count is worthless in and of itself. If you think follower count is a badge of honour or a status symbol, then you’re doing it wrong.

That being said, gaining more followers does have value, and here’s one reason why.

More followers make up for inactive ones.

Not everyone who uses social media does so religiously. Some social media users log in once then never connect again. Some use it frequently, then for various reasons take a hiatus.

Plus, despite your best efforts to avoid it, some people will unfollow your social media accounts. (If you’re doing everything you can to engage your followers, don’t worry about losing a few; just keep focused and carry on.)

As a result, if you never increase your follower count, eventually your numbers will drop, both in terms of actual follower count and engagement.

Increasing your followers will make up for the accounts that go inactive and for those who stop following you. It ensures that your community stays fresh with new followers who can bring new ideas and increase engagement.

Keeping your community fresh enriches the conversation and expands your network, which helps to deepen brand loyalty and broaden brand awareness.
