How to hide tweets with certain words

Have you ever wanted to stop tweets with certain words from showing up in your Twitter feed?

Earlier this year, a fairly high profile criminal trial took place here in Lethbridge over a several-day period. All the media outlets were livetweeting it on their corporate accounts and their individual accounts. This clogged up the feed for one of the clients I manage, so I needed to mute the tweets from my feed. Luckily, most everyone used a hashtag, so I was able to mute that hashtag.

If you need to mute tweets containing certain words from your timeline, follow these steps.

1. Click on your avatar, then click on “Settings and privacy”.

2. In the left sidebar, click on “Muted words”.

3. If this is your first time, you may see this message. Just press the “Got it” button.

4. Click on the “Add” button.

5. Enter your word or hashtag, then click the “Add” button. You can choose additional options, including where, who, and when.

That’s all there is to it. Have you used the “mute” feature on Twitter before? Let me know your experience in the comments below.
