Shouldn’t you capitalize “husband”?

The following is a reader submission.

Wouldn’t you capitalize husband if in fact you were writing and referenced your Husband? Using the word husband in place of his name. Just like when you would reference your Mom or Dad. I thought personal reference should be added as the 4th reason to capitalize husband from your April 2017 blog post that I happened to run across.

Hi, Rebecca.

Normally, you wouldn’t capitalize husband, even if you’re referring to your husband. The only time I can think of when you would capitalize it is if you used “husband” as a form of address:

“Husband, will you please lay out my red dress for me?”

The same goes for “mum” and “dad”. You would say, “Dad, may I go to the store?” but, “I asked my dad if I could go to the store.”

Hopefully that clears things up for you. :)
