Recently, I have been noticing an increase in messages coming my way that contain no capitalization.
Not starting the message. Not after periods. Not even my own name.
I have autism, and one of the things that I hyperfocus on is grammar and writing. So, when I get messages lacking basic sentence structure, such as capitalization, it makes me uncomfortable.
No, seriously. It is a literal feeling of discomfort.
Anyhow, this seemingly declining use of capitalization prompted me to write this article.
If you use an iPhone, there is actually a setting you can turn on that can capitalize some things automatically.
For example, it will capitalize the first word in your message, the first word after a period, and what your phone thinks is a proper noun.
To turn on the setting, follow these 4 steps:
1. Open your Settings app.
2. Click on the “General” option.
3. Click on the “Keyboard” option.
4. Click on the “Auto-Capitalization” option.
And that is it.
Hopefully that makes things easier for you. And for old autistic people like me.
