Summer is winding down, and it won’t be long before everyone is talking about how cold it is where they live. As they do, many social media posts are going to be missing something.
The degree symbol.
People are going to write things like, “It’s -6 out” or “It’s -6C out”.
The proper way to write temperature would be “It’s 26º C out.” But how do you create the degree symbol? It’s not on any of the buttons on your keyboard.
If you are on a Mac computer, use the Shift + Option + 8 key combination.
For a Windows based computer, hold down the Alt key, then type 0176 on your number pad.
On a Chromebook, hold down Ctrl+Shift+u at the same time, release them, type 00B0 (the 4-character unicode for the degree symbol), then press the space bar.
It is a bit easier on an iPhone, as you do not need any key combinations. Hold down the 0 key (that is a zero, not a capital O). A degree symbol will pop up, and without letting go, just slide your finger over to the ° symbol.
